Minutes of the March 10, 2010 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Crippen at 5:32 p.m.

The  invocation was offered by Lionel Cross.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Paul Myers.

The chairman had attendees introduce themselves.

Attendance:  Jerry Crippen, Lionel Cross, Ozz Diessner, Marcia Myers, Paul Meyers, Donald Rae, Frances Rae, Terry Rutherford, Don Schrader, Buck Weckman, Colene Weckman,  Frank Cecil, Linda Morgan, Hal Stocker, Sandy Henry-Munkers, Greg Munkers, Robert C. Furmidge, Blanche S. Furmidge, Dennis Stone, Catherine Hollis, David W. Filante, Matt Fowles, John W. Mistler, Marlys Eatmon,  Bernie Zaboski, Greg Weitzel, Andy Vasquez, Steve Thompson, Carmel Garcia (Dist.  1)

Minutes of the prior meeting were distributed via email.  Copies were provided for those who did not receive them via email.  The minutes were amended to read Brenda Peeples, not Peoples, resigned from the OPUD Board.  It was moved by Don Schrader to approve the minutes as amended and seconded by Buck Weckman.  The motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer's report:  Marcia Myers reported that the Federal Bank Account has $4,259.60 and the State Bank Account has $1,659.93.  Lionel Cross moved to accept the financial report.  It was seconded by Ozz Diessner and approved unanimously.

Candidate presentations: 

Don Schrader reported that Meg Whitman's representative had car problems and was unable to attend the meeting.

Pete Striglich is running for the Republican nomination for the 2nd Congressional District. The seat is now held by Wally Herger.  Mr. Striglich focused on his background and experience as a military officer. He said he is a staunch traditional conservative.  He expressed strong feelings for the necessity of following the Constitution, reducing  federal spending  and eliminating illegal immigration.  He  requested the central committee's support.

Marc Barnum is running for the Yuba County  5th Supervisorial District. He has lived in the Loma Rica area for the past 35 years.  He suggested visiting his web site at Marc Barnum for supervisor.com .  Mr. Barnum, as a supervisor ,  says he will focus on issues involving family, job requirements, tax credits and community self- reliance. He said that honesty, integrity and transparency are prerequisites of a good supervisor.  He requested the central committee's support.

Hal Stocker is the incumbent for the Yuba County  5th Supervisorial District.  He is also a member of the Yuba County Republican Party Central Committee. Mr. Stocker reviewed his professional experience and his educational accomplishments.  He is involved in the Anti-Obesity Program, the county finance committee and the county general plan.  He is profoundly interested in proper county and foothill growth, including the highway system.  He stressed that there are many developers  who are interested in building houses, but are not necessarily interested in coupling this with business development.   He stressed that proper development must include businesses to provide jobs. He also said that there are plans for the development of Bullards Bar Dam.  The possibility of a regional power company by 2016 is in the offing.  He wants to be involved in projects that he was involved in starting..  He requested the support of the central committee.

Don Rae is a member of the Yuba County Republican Central Committee.  He is seeking to be appointed to the position vacated by the resignation of Brenda Peeples on the Olivehurst Public Utility District (OPUD) Board. The appointment will be until the next regular election  in November. Mr. Rae has 40 years of experience that would be valuable as a OPUD Board member. Mr. Rae reviewed  his qualifications.  After some discussion, Andy Vasquez moved that that the central committee adopt a resolution in support of Don Rae's appointment. It was seconded by Don Schrader and passed unanimously by a secret ballot of the voting members.

A draft letter of a resolution supporting Dan Logue for reelection was presented by Buck Weckman. After a brief discussion, it was moved by  Lionel Cross and seconded by Don Schrader to adopt the letter.  The letter was adopted by secret ballot unanimously.

Buck Weckman  introduced a draft letter  to be sent to  Dan Logue.  This letter stated our displeasure with Dan Logue and other Republicans for voting in favor of the Governor's appointment of Senator Able Maldonado  for the open position of  Lt Governor.  After brief presentation from Steve Thompson, Dan Logue's representative,  a great deal of pros and cons were discussed, after which the chairman called for a vote.  The majority of members decided that the letter should not be sent.

Steve Thompson presented David  Filante with a memorial resolution on the passing of David's mother.

Lionel Cross  made a motion that a resolution be adopted in support of Andy Vasquez for Yuba County Supervisor  It was seconded by Don Schrader and passed unanimously by secret ballot.

Terry Rutherford made a motion that a resolution be adopted in support of Steve Durfor for Sheriff. It was seconded by Colene Weckman and passed unanimously by secret ballot.

Don Rae made a motion that a resolution be adopted in support of George Runner for the Board of Equalization. It was seconded by Lionel Cross and passed unanimously by secret ballot.

Buck Weckman requested reimbursement of $340.00 in support of the recruitment program.  A motion was made to approve by Ozz Diessner, seconded by Terry Rutherford and approved unanimously.

John Mistler suggested that position letters be prepared on the initiatives on the Statewide June 2010 ballot.

The Meeting adjourned  at 7:00 p.m.
